Keeping Childcare Centers Safe During COVID-19
Here at Support on the Way, safety is our #1 priority. COVID-19 has impacted us all in numerous ways during this time of uncertainty. Using the Ministry of Education’s Operational Guidance During COVID-19 Outbreak, our staff are committed to the health and safety of childcare staff and children while adhering to public health regulations.
Our team is also aware of the criteria required to re-open, as set out by the Ontario government. This includes limits on attendance, a COVID-19 response plan, symptom screening, daily attendance logs, frequent cleaning, restrictions on non-essential visitors, and drop-off and pick-up protocols.
We have equipped our staff with proper PPE, giving them the ability to support our communities during the re-opening of childcare centers. This allows caregivers peace of mind, knowing their children are being cared for in a safe environment while they return to work.
As per regulations, we designate a consistent number of staff to each location to help reduce the transmission of the virus. Centres then assign our staff to specific cohorts in need of support. All staff have been informed of the required guidelines and protocols and are instructed to contact Support on the Way and Public Health immediately if they demonstrate any symptoms of illness.
To ensure coverage needs are met and safety standards are maintained, we have prepared dedicated staff cohorts for each center. Support on the Way also provides 15 minutes of paid time for staff to learn new cleaning and food preparation protocols developed by each center, ensuring the high-quality staffing support required.
If staff are not needed to meet ratio requirements within a program, they are willing to assist as part of a disinfecting and cleaning team to maximize the decontamination of high-touch surfaces.
